Picture it.. Pomona California, 1975. My mother took my brother and I to a grand opening of an Alpha Beta supermarket. In front of the store stood a seven foot tall Twinkie the Kid holding a basket full of Twinkies, handing them out to passers by. At that point in my life I hated any type of walk around characters like the ones you'd see at Disneyland. (I had a bad experience with the ICEE Bear at K-Mart the previous year). However, I KNEW Twinkie the Kid. He was on the Television all of the time! I excitedly ran up to him, shook his hand, and he in turn handed me a Twinkie. It was the first snack cake I ever remember eating, and I've been hooked ever since.
